My Philosophy of Care

I am a psychologist licensed in NYC specialized in the treatment of binge eating disorder, disordered eating, body image, and psychological issues related to bariatric surgery. I practice from an integrative approach. That means I have training in cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and mindfulness based interventions and can pull from different modalities as we explore what works best for you. I contextualize symptoms within your unique history, recognize the role that trauma plays in your current functioning, and understand that it is hard to be healthy within a system that is sick. We will work to understand the ways that your identities have impacted your experience in the world and the current symptoms that you may be experiencing. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space to explore vulnerable topics with trust, transparency, and collaboration. My work is strongly informed by the Health At Every Size® (HAES) philosophy. Health At Every Size is a social-justice movement working to promote size-acceptance, end weight-based discrimination, and lessen the cultural obsession with weight loss and thinness. For those interested in improving health, I take a holistic view including a focus on mental wellbeing which can play an important role in our physical health. I value body diversity and hope to help you work towards your goals at any size.

About Me & My Practice

I'm a clinical psychologist who was drawn to this work after decades of yo-yo dieting and feeling out of control with food. As someone with thin-privilege, I recognize that healing is different for everyone and that our intersecting identities, privileges, and marginalization have profound impacts on recovery. I started out my career working in a weight-normative model and trained in a bariatric surgery clinic. Thankfully I found Health At Every Size early in my career and have been able to spend the past 12+ years practicing from a weight inclusive model. Having spent time training in a medical model, I now dedicate these skills to helping folks navigate medical fatphobia and I'm especially passionate about working with people to find healing following bariatric surgery. Several years ago, I founded Conason Psychological Services, a trauma-informed fat-positive therapy practice where clients can choose from several HAES-aligned therapists to find the person who is the best fit for them. I'm also the author of The Diet Free Revolution: 10 Steps to Free Yourself from the Diet Cycle with Mindful Eating and Radical Self-Acceptance and the creator of The Anti-Diet Plan mindful eating course and coaching program On a personal note, I live in NYC with my spouse and two children. I love to cook, eat, spend time in nature, and recently took up watercolor painting as a complete beginner. If you enjoy spending time on social media, you can find me on Instagram at @theantidietplan.
