My Philosophy of Care

(Text boxes cut me off before 500 words, but I fit what I can! Please let me know if you'd like me to email more!) I approach my clients as the experts of their own lives and I work with them as a supporter and fellow traveler rather than as a guide our expert. I believe health is extremely subjective and that there are many factors outside of one's control that determine "health". I believe healthcare is inherently ableist, racist, fat phobic, and sexist, and I see part of my role as supporting my clients with unconditional love and acceptance as they navigate this broken system. HAES® means everything to me as a fat person in long term ED recovery and it is my passion to carry this message to fox who feel alone or at war with their bodies and the world. I am a fat positive, social justice oriented clinician and I am regularly sharing resources that promote inclusivity and body liberation and work closely with my colleagues in the field to create a positive and loving treatment team outside the confines of weight stigma.

About Me & My Practice

I came to this work through my own journey in ED recovery and feel passionately about passing it along to others. I was trained by Neathery Falchuk LCSW-S through the Ample and RootED eating disorder clinician program where I received a comprehensive training on treating eating disorders with social justice oriented, body liberation focused approaches. I have been seeing clients since the summer of 2020 and have always practiced from as HAES® perspective. A good chunk of my practice is seeing clients in larger bodies in ED recovery. This is my passion due to my lived experience. I am always trying to do more to advocate for folx who are more impacted by medical fat phobia than myself; currently I engage in regular conversations with folx, talk to health care providers in my area, and educate those who have never heard of HAES® whenever I get the chance. Outside of work I enjoy hanging out with my dog and husband, hiking, and tarot cards.

Accessibility Considerations

My office is fully wheel chair accessible and has many options for seating. I work at a group practice where there are many office spaces with large couches directly on the floor (no legs etc), and clients have many options in picking an office that is most comfortable to them (some have sectionals) and some have just regular size couches without a middle arm. Myself and my supervisor Astrid are usually the only people at the office when I see clients and Astrid is wonderful, welcoming, and loving to all folx should she ever run into any of my clients in the waiting room.
