My Philosophy of Care
I practice with a compassionate, weight-inclusive, trauma-informed, non-diet approach. I help clients understand what really impacts their health, and help alleviate blame and shame. I speak to marginalized identities and how oppression and stigma play a role. I help clients unlearn what they have been taught by diet culture and other systems of oppression. I guide clients to uncover their true values and philosophies. I center their lived experience and their goals. My clients have shared countless stories of how they’ve previously felt shamed, invalidated, or unheard while seeking out health care, and so I do my best to provide a safe, compassionate, inclusive space for my clients to feel heard, seen, & valued.
I do not weigh my clients. I do not give meal plans. At someone's request, I can help with food-centered goals like making grocery lists, coming up with meal/snack ideas, food exposures, and more. I let my clients set their own goals and lead their recovery.
I can also coach clients on connecting to their body. This can feel very scary and impossible for some, especially those with a history of trauma. That is where my training in trauma, yoga, and mindfulness comes in. I can help clients slowly find safety in their being.
About Me & My Practice
I became an eating disorder dietitian because I get it. I am also in recovery. I remember not believing recovery was possible. I remember the pain of living out of alignment with my truth. I became a dietitian to offer hope to others, because I remember the desperation of feeling absolutely hopeless.
I became a HAES-aligned dietitian because I do not want to do harm to my clients. I've read the research and have witnessed the healing properties of a HAES-aligned approach. I first learned about HAES in 2016 and have been practicing from that lens ever since.
Outside of my work as a dietitian, I am a human who loves being in nature. I try to backpack and hike as much as I can. I enjoy yoga, dancing, rock climbing, skating, and hanging out with my pup + kitty.
Accessibility Considerations
My work is all virtual via a secure telehealth platform. If someone was interested in working with me and did not find this accessible, I would do my best to support them. I have not had this situation come up yet so I cannot speak to it in detail.
