My Philosophy of Care

I work with people who are tired of determining their worth by how much they weigh or what they ate that day. I aim to help you rediscover your worth, raise your self-esteem, gain confidence, and create a life worth living. I believe two of the biggest factors affecting the effectiveness of therapy are: The relationship you have with your therapist. The effort you put into therapy. Therapy is only 1 hour out of 168 in your week. We'll choose "therapy homework" together, but it will be up to you to go home and complete them to bring yourself closer to your goals. It's important that you are able to trust your therapist and feel comfortable talking with them. It's impossible for therapists not to bring their personalities into therapy, and mine frequently shows up through humor, warmth, validation, education, and empowerment. I practice from a Health At Every Size perspective, because sizeism is a real form of oppression and can affect mental health just as much as any of the others.

About Me & My Practice

I've been working with food and body image issues since graduate school. I learned about Health At Every Size the year after I graduated and thought it makes a lot of sense as a social justice framework. People experience oppression in a variety of ways, including body size. Health looks different for everyone and not everyone values or wants to attain health. People are deserving of respect and self-determination no matter their body size. In my free time I like to watch TV, read, go on walks with my family, and knit.
