My Philosophy of Care

As a Health at Every Size (HAES) mental health counselor, my primary focus is on helping clients improve their overall well-being and mental health, rather than solely focusing on weight loss or body size. This means that I prioritize self-acceptance, self-care, and intuitive eating rather than dieting and weight loss as the primary goals of treatment. I practice from a HAES perspective because I believe in the importance of body positivity, inclusivity, and respect for all body sizes and shapes. This approach aligns with my core values of promoting self-acceptance and self-compassion, and encourages clients to engage in behaviors that support their overall well-being and mental health without being constrained by societal expectations of what their bodies "should" look like. For me, HAES care is important because it challenges the harmful and pervasive cultural messages that equate thinness with health and happiness. This approach recognizes that health is complex and multifaceted and that every individual deserves respect and care regardless of their body size or shape. As a mental health counselor, I strive to create a safe and supportive space where my clients feel heard, validated, and empowered to make choices that align with their values and promote their overall well-being.

About Me & My Practice

Hanna proudly specializes in working with queer, neurodivergent, and kinky/poly individuals, recognizing the unique challenges and joys that accompany these identities. With a deep understanding of the intersectionality of human experiences, Hanna provides affirming and judgment-free support to help clients navigate their unique journeys. As a HAES advocate, Hanna believes in the inherent worth and dignity of every body. Rejecting societal norms that perpetuate body shaming, Hanna encourages clients to develop a positive relationship with their bodies, promoting holistic well-being and self-acceptance. Hanna employs a person-centered and eclectic therapeutic approach, integrating modalities such as IFS, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care. This approach allows Hanna to meet each client where they are on their journey, tailoring interventions to suit their unique needs and preferences.
