My Philosophy of Care

In my work with clients, I aim to listen and reflect and offer gentle guidance when appropriate and with permission. I use a motivational interviewing style of counseling, which allows me to let clients guide where they want our work to go. I use a HAES-aligned approach because I see it as the only ethical and humanitarian approach to my work as a dietitian. I am a certified Intuitive Eating counselor and have completed coursework in trauma-informed dietetics, acceptance and commitment therapy, body image. I consider myself a lifelong learner and will undoubtedly continue to revise the way I work with clients with the aim of enhancing care.

About Me & My Practice

I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) with a private practice in Newport Beach, CA. In my practice I use a weight inclusive, anti-diet framework. My dietetics and public health training did not introduce me to the principles of Health at Every Size®. Rather, I came to HAES® by my own accord through books, podcasts, conferences, and trainings. Once learning about HAES®, it was clear there was no other ethical way to work with humans. I have been writing for Today’s Dietitian: The magazine for nutrition professionals since 2008. In 2020, I wrote a continuing education article for Today’s Dietitian entitled “Weight Inclusive Care: Evidence and Best Practices” that nearly 10,000 nutrition professionals have completed to date. You can learn more about my practice here: socalnw.com

Accessibility Considerations

I am on the first floor of my building, making it accessible for wheelchairs, although there are no automatic doors. In addition, our building has a wheelchair accessible and all gender bathroom. In my waiting room and office, there are armless chairs and couches to sit on.
