My Philosophy of Care
Collaboration is a key characteristic in the work I do with my clients. I believe that each person is the expert on their own life and experiences. Although I might offer different perspectives or provide education, I do so to support the goals my client's have identified for themselves. Most of my clients are neurodivergent, queer and fat, all identities that often lead to a lifetime of trauma and invalidation. The work we do focuses on self empowerment and radical self acceptance.
I used a trauma informed approach in all of my sessions which is rooted in validation of each person's experience. Health at Every Size is integral to this process. Many clients have experienced trauma by therapists who blame mental health, relationship and medical issues on fatness. I use the Health at Every Size model to reverse this internalized self blame and affirm that every single person, regardless of size deserves care.
About Me & My Practice
Being a Health at Every Size provider has been integral to both my personal and professional work. After years of fatphobic Eating Disorder treatment, finding the Health at Every Size principles empowered me to feel entitled to appropriate care regardless of my size. At the time, there were no providers in my area to support me in this. It is very meaningful to be able to help my clients advocate for themselves, connect with the fat community to share resources and to know that their size is never a reason to be denied heath care and basic human rights.
Outside of being a therapist, my partner, two kids, service dog and I love to explore and travel. We have some of our best memories in cars or hotels where we are all together and disconnected from technology. I love painting, listening to audio books and spending time with friends who are my chosen family.
Accessibility Considerations
My practice is completely virtual so there is no physical space accessibility considerations. I do offer accommodations for neurodivergent clients who prefer typing to talking, voice only sessions and phone sessions.
