My Philosophy of Care
My mission is to support all people in finding peace with food freedom utilizing a weight inclusive approach; through Intuitive Eating, gentle nutrition and body acceptance.
In my work with my patients their goals and needs are at the center of their care. I value patient autonomy and believe that every person is the expert of themselves. I work with patients helping them guide decisions to improve their relationship with food and their body. My patients are in the driver's seat, and I am holding the map.
I utilize motivational interviewing techniques and Acceptance Commitment Therapy to help my patients achieve their goals.
The HAES framework is integral in my work with my patients, it helps align with my value of ending weight stigma and fat-phobia.
About Me & My Practice
Hello! I am Mia, and I am a weight inclusive, HAES® aligned Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and the practice owner of Olive Branch Nutrition. I work to support people in a safe environment to find peace with food freedom.
I wanted to create a space where we can find peace with food freedom. I want to extend an olive branch to you the way I finally extended it to myself. The olive branch to me is a personal symbol of inner peace, resiliency and strength.
In my past I have struggled with disordered eating and the HAES framework and Intuitive Eating delivered me from diet culture, and I want to help provide the same for my patients.
Mia holds a Masters Degree in Nutrition and Wellness and a Masters of Public Health. She has additional training in Binge Eating Disorders, Intuitive Eating Counseling and Motivational Interviewing, and ACT. She has held leadership positions in local dietetic organizations, including the 2022 role of President of NSAND (the North Suburban Dietetic Association).
Mia also teaches at a local community college and has incorporated the HAES framework into her nutrition courses. In addition, Mia spends time advocating to the local community regarding fat-phobia and weight stigma, via school district presentations, community presentations and social media channels.
Mia spends her free time chasing two busy healthy kids, reading (mostly non-fiction) and practicing yoga, mindfulness, gratitude and meditation in her daily life.
Accessibility Considerations
My home office is not fully accessibly for those with disabilities as I do have a step up to enter my office. I do offer virtual appointments for those who may not be able to access in person appointments for any reason.
