My Philosophy of Care
Every person on earth is an individual, and has a right to individualized care. Every program I offer is tailored to an individual's holistic needs to meet their specific goals.
As a fat and disabled person, being a HAES provider is tantamount in my business due to the discrimination I have personally experienced in fitness, nutrition, medical, academic, employment, and social environments.
You are seen, heard, and valued and I work alongside you--not lead you--to your goals. I don't take my responsibilities as a professional lightly, and continue to work and grow to provide the most up-to-date and affirming programs in my practice.
About Me & My Practice
I opened my wellness practice to provide other people the experiences that I didn't have in the fitness and nutrition spaces at the outset of my wellness journey.
I provide a non-judgmental space to process feelings and previous hurts, while establishing realistic goals that fit your needs, desires, and lifestyle.
I am a fat marathon runner and triathlete and pride myself on overcoming the barriers in endurance sports that exist due to size. I am also recovered from multiple eating disorders that I experienced while fat and am not unfamiliar to the discriminatory care provided in this instance.
Accessibility Considerations
Virtual clients: must have access to Zoom and email.
In person clients: first floor practice in my licensed residential business, but there is a small incline and 3 steps up to the doorway. Once inside, there is one step down into the gym and no steps to access my office or the restroom.
Fitness clients are not required to get down on the floor for movement (unless desired). I have a therapy table that accommodates up to 400lbs and sturdy chairs without arms that accommodate up to 700lbs. All movement practices are adaptable and modifiable to standing, seated, or lying down depending on needs.
Food logging in nutrition counseling and/or diabetes management programs is done for a short period--not ongoing. This practice can be opted out and still receive successful care.
All staff (currently one personal assistant) also ascribe to HAES foundations and is a non-negotiable requirement for hiring.
Can supply appropriate waivers in order to communicate directly with other members of a client's care team (physicians, physical therapists, mental health professionals, RD/RDN, etc)
