My Philosophy of Care

When working with clients, I use a Health at Every Size® lens. To me, this means I understand and respect the diverse range of bodies and accept and promote that “health” can and will look different for different humans and people of different abilities. Personally the work I really enjoy supporting my clients includes dismantling and challenging previous notions of health, diet culture, and patriarchy influences. I understand as a thin and able-bodied, white woman my privileges show up in the honored work I do: I have worked and will continue to work to identify and be aware of how these biases can impact my client’s work. In all of the work I do with clients, I work to operate from a trauma-informed approach. To me, the foundation of trauma-informed care is transparency and authenticity while remaining compassionate for a person’s lived experiences. I absolutely view my client as the expert in their life and I always work to follow their lead. This also means the work we do moves at a pace that is appropriate for the individual and their current circumstances.

About Me & My Practice

Early on in my education, I was always drawn to understanding and expressing my frustrations with beauty standards and mainstream culture pressures. I was that teen who just truly enjoyed operating in spite, working to be different and go against the grain whenever I got the shot. Fast forward to 2022, I opened my practice after completing my post-graduate work in IOP/PHP level of care at an eating disorder treatment. Here is where I was first introduced to the Health at Every Size® approach and had the opportunity to work with clients both in individual and group settings. It is such an honor to witness so many people in their recovery journeys whilst working with and amongst like-minded providers. Sadly, outside of treatment centers, it can feel that safe providers who support towards liberation can be few and far between. This is my draw to join the ASDAH community - I know I am not the counselor for everyone, but it is my vocation to help others and to work to do no harm and reduce the overall harm that frequently happens in mental health and medical settings. I feel drawn to help others understand and repair their relationship with food and to their bodies. In my personal life, I have turned into a plant-fanatic (I think I was destined with master gardeners and avid gardeners in the family), you'll find me spending time with my aging beagle and spruce cat.
