My Philosophy of Care
I approach my clients through a humanistic psychology lens. This means that I am client-centred. I believe that all humans have individual qualities of optimal well-being, as well as a tendency toward growth, development and optimal functioning. My work is guided by intentionality, my client's choice, my client's values (as well as mine), and conscious awareness. I believe that we are all born with an innate motivational drive toward autonomy, self-actualisation and psychological well-being. Health is not just the absence of pathology: I highlight maturity and the roles of meaningfulness and values.
About Me & My Practice
Hi! I'm Ulrika, I study psychology with counselling. I'm a former fit pro who turned into a weight-neutral health care and fitness provider in 2017. I have been practicing from a HAES lense since 2018.
I came to work as a weight-neutral practitioner through my own journey with an eating disorder. I used to be a fitness competitor until I developed an ED. During my journey, I explored my relationship with my body and health in general - and noted that the restrictive, weight-centered health paradigm I was educated in was destroying my health (and the well-being of those around me).
I have been in the health and fitness space since 2006, working as a group fitness instructor, personal trainer, physiotherapist and influencer (on Instagram). I use my platforms to support people impacted by medical fatphobia by educating healthcare professionals (being a science-splaining physiotherapist, they listen to me!). I volunteer for a local eating disorder association, writing social media posts, blog posts and recording podcasts about the science of fatphobia and weight stigma.
Outside of work, I love travelling around Europe in my campervan. I have two small dogs (a yorkie and a chihuahua) who love to em-bark on adventures with me. See what I did there? ;) I also love dad jokes.
Accessibility Considerations
I work online. To work with me you need a working internet connection, preferably a camera so we can talk face-to-face. If not, that's okay too! We can have our cameras off, or just communicate by writing to each other.
