We are excited to announce that the 2021 ASDAH Elections process is underway!
Now through July 22nd, we are seeking nominations for several board positions.

The ASDAH Board of Directors oversees all ASDAH-related activity and furthers the mission of ASDAH – to promote Health at Every Size®️ principles. There are many opportunities to serve on the ASDAH Board of Directors and put your skills and talents toward furthering our organization.
What We do on the ASDAH Board
The ASDAH Board is comprised of 9 members. Our board is a working board, which means that our main function is to do the work of running the organization. Our goal is to ensure ASDAH’s ability to serve its members and fulfill its mission.
Nonprofit Board members have responsibilities that include:
● Serving as an ambassador of ASDAH to the public
● Assessing ASDAH’s direction and evaluating the organization’s purpose, mission, and effectiveness
● Assessing our progress towards meeting the goals and objectives of our strategic plan
● Ensuring that ASDAH adequately handles all liability and financial risks
● Overseeing ASDAH’s annual budgeting process
● Ensuring that ASDAH is operating within nonprofit best practices
● Participating actively in board meetings
Available Positions, Valuable Skills & Expectations
We currently have five positions available in this coming election cycle. The following offers a brief list of the kinds of skills, attitude, etc. that would be advantageous for the person in this position. Links to full position descriptions can be found below.
Note: Ideal candidates will have many of these attributes/experiences, but it is not necessary to have every item listed to self-nominate. We expect and encourage professional development as part of your position with ASDAH, and do not expect “perfect candidates” only to apply.
ASDAH Nominations Process for the 2021 Election
Continuing with our dedication to diversity and inclusion, we are once again looking to fill positions on the board with members of the community who:
● Identify as:
o Fat
o BIPOC (Black/Indigenous/People of Color)
o Transgender (including nonbinary, genderfluid, agender, and more)
o Intersex
o Disabled
o Neurodiverse
● Have significantly unpacked and continue to unpack personal biases, done personal growth and transformation work, and understand their social position in regard to power, privilege, and oppression
● Have a social justice background in facilitation, transformation, and healing work
● Have a lived experience in facing oppression
● Are experienced in working with marginalized communities
● Are passionate about educating health professionals and the public, advocating for those most impacted by oppression, organizing, facilitation, transformation, and healing work
● Are committed to investing in the future of ASDAH via your time, skill set, and resources
The following positions for the call of nominations on the ASDAH Board of Directors for the board year beginning August 11, 2021, are as follows:
Treasurer (Financial Director): 2-year term, volunteer position, 15-20 hours per month estimated time commitment

● Monitor overall financial health of the organization
● Facilitate all fundraising activities
● Must have proficient bookkeeping skills including reading, preparing, and interpreting fiscal statements
Secretary: 2-year term, volunteer position, 8-10 hours per month estimated time commitment

● Organizes, maintains, and preserves ASDAH records including legal documents, board meeting minutes, and other organizational documents.
● Acts as “board expert” on ASDAH policies and procedures including but limited to the articles of incorporation, bylaws, conflict of interest, and other key operating procedures.
● Experience with managing administrative tasks in virtual setting
Education Director: 2-year term, volunteer position, 15-20 hours per month estimated time commitment

● Plan, manage, and coordinate educational webinars aligned with ASDAH’s mission, vision, and values
● Curate and edit content for the ASDAH blog
● Must have experience interpreting and translating data and research for the general public
Digital Marketing Director: 2-year term, volunteer position, 15-20 hours per month estimated time commitment

● Develop digital marketing strategy to promote membership registration and engagement
● Manage and administer all ASDAH social media accounts
● Must have advanced experience with content creation and social media management tools
Community Liaison (At-Large Member): 2-year term, volunteer position, 8-10 hours per month estimated time commitment

● Act as a brand ambassador to promote ASDAH and HAES®
● Act as a liaison between general public, community at large, and organizational leadership
● Must have strong initiative and inner drive

Upon ensuring that ASDAH membership is current, you may nominate yourself (most people self-nominate) or someone else for a position by emailing admin@asdah.org.
If you are self-nominating (most applicants self-nominate), please include:
● The position(s) you are interested in.
● A brief statement of purpose (300 words or fewer) addressing the following:
○ Your commitment to HAES®, size diversity, and health.
○ Your skills and experience that have prepared you for this position.
○ A brief description of how you envision ASDAH’s capability to grow and expand as an organization.
● Resume, CV, and/or examples of your work (social media, writing samples)
● OPTIONAL: One letter of recommendation. This letter should address your ability to work with others and why you are the best fit for the position.
If you would like to nominate someone other than yourself, please confirm with them first, to ensure that they are eligible, qualified, and willing to apply for and take on the board position for which they are being nominated.
Nominations and candidate statements must be submitted to admin@asdah.org by 11:59 pm PT on Thursday, July 22, 2021.
All elected candidates must plan to attend the Leadership Team meeting on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 7:30 pm ET / 4:30pm PT.
