ASDAH Fundraising Board Member Position Description
About ASDAH
The Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH)’s purpose is to create the conditions for people of all sizes, particularly those most impacted by systemic anti-fat bias, to have equitable and barrier-free access to the care and healthcare resources we need to support our wellbeing. We are rooted in the principles of Health at Every Size® and committed to intersectional fat liberation, social justice, and dismantling medical weight bias.
Position Overview
ASDAH is seeking passionate and connected individuals to join a dynamic Fundraising Board. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of fat liberation in healthcare by expanding ASDAH’s donor network and fostering deep relationships with supporters. Members of this board will be key ambassadors of ASDAH’s mission and values in the philanthropic world, opening doors and influencing potentially large donors.
Responsibilities:
- Raise between $10,000 and $50,000 annually through a mix of personal outreach, cultivation, and direct asks.
- Build and steward a portfolio of donor relationships, with a strong emphasis on authenticity, trust, and shared values.
- Identify, research, and engage new donor prospects, both individual and institutional.
- Work closely with ASDAH’s staff and leadership to align fundraising efforts with strategic priorities.
- Participate in monthly board meetings and commit to 5–10 hours per month of active fundraising and relationship-building.
- Serve as a visible and enthusiastic representative of ASDAH and advocate for intersectional fat liberation within philanthropic spaces.
- Implement fundraising best practices.
- Evaluate board effectiveness and develop organization-specific fundraising strategies.
Ideal Candidate Qualities
- Deep passion for ASDAH’s mission and a demonstrated commitment to intersectional, justice-based work.
- Strong connections to the philanthropic community, especially individuals or institutions interested in progressive, equity-focused causes.
- Personable, persuasive, and relationship-oriented—you know how to make people feel seen, heard, and excited to give.
- Comfortable making asks, closing gifts, and celebrating wins—big or small.
- Thoughtful listener with a collaborative spirit and a drive to grow ASDAH’s impact.
How to Apply
Complete the following application including your resume or CV along with a brief (1-2 page max) cover letter that addresses the following items:
- Your connection to ASDAH and our work.
- Your values and how they align with ASDAH’s mission, especially our commitment to intersectional fat liberation, social justice, and Health at Every Size®.
- What you bring to ASDAH—this could include skills, relationships, experiences, or perspectives that will strengthen our collective fundraising efforts.
- Any prior fundraising experience you have, including how much you’ve raised in the past and in what contexts. (And just to be clear: it’s totally fine if you’re brand new to fundraising or your past efforts haven’t resulted in big dollars—we’re interested in potential, passion, and people power in addition to results.)
- What you hope to gain from serving on this board, personally or professionally.
We welcome your full self in this letter; it isn’t about perfection, it’s about connection and alignment.
