My Philosophy of Care
My work is rooted in fat liberation and bodily autonomy. As a therapist, I strongly subscribe to the idea that my clients are the experts and our relationship is client-centered and client-led. I prefer narrative therapy over most other theoretical approaches because it allows for a deeper reflective conversation on an individual's lived experience. I also appreciate narrative's problem externalization framework. This I find particularly meaningful in eating disorder recovery work; untangling guilt and shame from a client's healing process can be extremely liberating. In this way, Health at Every Size® has been a grounding perspective. When a client recognizes that their body is not the problem, and we are able to zoom out and talk about systemic issues, a new path can be forged.
About Me & My Practice
Having spent 10 years as a nutritionist, one who practiced from a place of internalized fatphobia, I approach my work as a therapist with a deep sense of knowing and understanding systemic anti-fat bias. I have a masters of social work (MSW) from Simmons University and am on track to attain full licensure (LICSW) in 2024. I currently hold a therapy practice as part of The Meeting Point collective in Jamaica Plain, MA. This affords me numerous weekly peer consultation and supervision opportunities that only strengthens and deepens my practice. I also have experience running support groups centered around body image and ED recovery; it is hard to find safe community in HAES® work and my aim is to provide at least one small space for folks who need it. I prioritize working with transgender and nonbinary folks, addressing the intersection of body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria. Outside of work, I live in a leafy neighborhood of Boston with my partner, our 9-year-old kiddo, and our dog Rufus. We love all kinds of board games, weekly takeout (usually involving dumplings), and walks in the Arboretum.
Accessibility Considerations
My practice is 80% virtual; thus, accessibility is based on whether my clients have a wifi connection. For my in-person clients, The Meeting Point is absolutely accessible for folks in wheelchairs and seating options are plentiful. While I do not have personal access to an interpreter, there are several providers at TMP who speak multiple languages and cultural backgrounds that I would feel comfortable consulting with. TMP also has an all-gender bathroom and inclusive signage throughout the space.
