My Philosophy of Care
I approach my work with patients by first understanding what brought them to me and then diving deeper into what it is like to live in their body and mind in their context. This often involves exploring core beliefs that are influenced by systems of oppression and their life experiences. Through a genuine and authentic therapeutic relationship, clients can feel safe and supported to unlearn patterns no longer serving them or receive the validation and care to embody their worth.
My approach to health is multi-faceted and emphasizes balance. I value education and prevention while also recognizing that the human body is complex and there are many things like genetics, access to care, living in a capitalist society that are outside of our control or favor certain groups. I am not the expert on what health looks like for each individual so I empower them to embody a definition of health that aligns with their values.
Being a Health at Every Size® provider means creating a space where people of all identities and bodies not only feel safe and seen, but feel fiercely advocated and cared for. To me it means not just holding space for others’ experiences, but taking steps to dismantle the oppressive systems impacting my clients. I find the values of Health at Every Size® to be so relevant to my work with clients in challenging all or nothing thinking/behaving, understanding the impact trauma has on our health (emotionally and physically) and doing what we can to care for ourselves.

About Me & My Practice
I came to this work through my own journey of healing my relationship with food, my body and movement. It wasn’t until my late teen/young adult years that I was able to see all of the harm diet culture can do as well as take ownership of my own privilege and responsibility to educate others on this harm as a thin, able-bodied white woman. This passion for supporting others in their journey led me to working for a couple of years at an eating disorder treatment center where I was able to put a name to these values aligning with HAES® and also see just how much weight stigma and harm my fat clients experienced. I have taken continuing education on ways in which weight stigma impacts health, dismantling my own internalized fatphobia and how to broach fat folks’ pain and oppression as a person in a thin body. I continue to read many books on my own free time to continue my learning.
I advocate for those experiencing medical fatphobia by having open dialogues about the harm of fatphobia to those in my life both personally and professionally as well as having conversations with my own and my client’s medical providers to assure they are receiving the best and respectful care. I also make sure to refer clients to providers who are also HAES® aligned to not do further damage. I recently started my own private practice and am so excited to be able to provide care fully aligned with the HAES® values.

Accessibility Considerations
I provide gender affirming care throughout my work with all clients. My intake paperwork is inclusive and does not ask for information like weight or BMI. It does ask if you are under medical care/on an prescription medications which one is not required to answer. I do value understanding what your experience has been like navigating the medical system and its impact on you. My office has gender inclusive restroom options.
