My Philosophy of Care

In the first few sessions of therapy, I get to know you, your background, and the current issues. It is typical that more issues arise as we work together, which can be addressed when appropriate with your consent. The therapy approaches I use vary depending on your concerns, however, I regularly check-in with you to determine whether my approach is helping. If not, then we change direction. My priority is you and your healing. I greatly enjoy a laugh or two with my clients as we don't have to be in the pain all the time. Health at Every Size® is important to me as I live in a larger body and have dealt with the oppression of being judged and treated based solely on my size. I understand the hurt, shame, and disappointment that comes with not being treated fairly. I want to make sure my clients feel safe, secure, and accepted for who they are.

About Me & My Practice

I have been a counselor for 11 years and have practiced in mostly college counseling centers where I've worked with folks of all ages, backgrounds, identities, and issues. I also worked with children and adults dealing with trauma and abuse where I learned how being trauma-informed is a necessity in practice. I have worked in private practice for the past three years and love that I can work with the populations of clients that I love and passionate about helping. In 2017, a friend introduced me to intuitive eating, HAES®, and the anti-diet movement, which helped me significantly with my relationship with my body and eating issues. The impact it had on me made me want to serve and advocate for folks who had been treated differently or unfairly due to their size/identity. This led to becoming a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor in 2022. Outside of being a counselor, I enjoy practicing yoga, listening to music and going to live shows, training our rescue dog Peppa, and spending time with my husband and two step-children. My happy place is the mountains, by a lake, with a book, and the people I love.

Accessibility Considerations

During virtual sessions, I encourage clients to be in a safe, comfortable, confidential area for sessions. For both in-person and virtual sessions, I am happy to make accommodations for clients based on need. For in-person services, I have an upstairs office with access only by stairs. For seating, I have an approximate 6 foot long couch that is about one-two feet from the floor.
