My Philosophy of Care
For many years, Janie Ganga has believed in Health at Every Size® – the simple premise that the best way to improve health is to honor your body. Janie Ganga has collaborated with SHAPE RI to offer size-affirming yoga. She respects people in larger bodies and welcomes them to attend her group yoga classes. She also enjoys working individually with people who want to access yoga but are hesitant. She works with people of many sizes, shapes, and abilities. Yoga is a flexible practice that has so many aspects! She would love to work with YOU to find a practice that supports your life right now.
About Me & My Practice
Janie Ganga (she/they) identifies as queer and has a background in organizing for queer women, bisexual community, and transgender and gender non-conforming people. She has been practicing Amrit yoga since 2002. For many years, she enjoyed yoga classes once a week – she found that yoga lowered her stress level, made her body feel healthier, and gave her perspective on difficult relationships. Her practice deepened in 2011 when major shifts in her life began. Yoga gave her the tools to thrive through this transformation. Before her yoga journey began, Janie was an academic, with a Bachelor’s in English & American Literature from Brown University (1997) as well as a Master’s in English from Brown (1999). From 2012-2020, Janie enjoyed working at Whole Foods in Customer Service & Local Forager. In June 2021, Ganga & her business partner Padma purchased Santosha Yoga Studio and are continuing to offer online yoga and meditation classes, taught live via Zoom.
Ganga first learned about Health at Every Size® not long after her first yoga teacher training in 2013. As a new teacher, she immediately recognized that Yoga Teachers have a pivotal role to help students have a more accepting view of their bodies. This understanding and wish to make the practice more accessible to ALL people led her to do her own research. As soon as she found Health at Every Size®, she began including that in her professional materials.

Accessibility Considerations
I primarily work via Zoom (or Skype, if the student prefers that). Access limitations are mostly due to a student's access to a device, a little bit of quiet space, and an internet connection.
