My Philosophy of Care
I believe the reason individuals come to therapy is that they are having relationship challenges, whether it's with themselves, others, or even society. We struggle with ways to cope with those challenges that can increase anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. I focus on a well-rounded approach to healing. Nothing rarely is all-or-nothing. This is why being a Health at Every Size® therapist fits with my philosophy. I believe there is no all-or-nothing approach to wellness. Being a HAES® therapist allows clients the space to talk about their body or health challenges and the relationship with those challenges in an affirming therapeutic space. Let's challenge those old messages of fat phobia and pervasive family system messages about diet culture and fatness.
About Me & My Practice
Here's a little bit about me and my approach to therapy. When you come into therapy, I take the time to understand the whole you, not just your diagnosis or symptoms. We look at all areas of your life and see what needs to be addressed, supported, and adjusted. I am very passionate about being a HAES® therapist due to my experience living in a larger body for most of my life. I have had therapists, as well as doctors, shame me for my body and not understand my needs because of their internalized fatphobia. I believe all therapists and providers should have this understanding of health meaning so much more than body size or shape.
Accessibility Considerations
My office is accessible for all body sizes. I am also available for telehealth services if that is more comfortable for you.
