My Philosophy of Care

My clients are the ones in the driver's seat when it comes to their healthcare. I see my role as providing guidance and support. I believe in autonomy and respect decisions clients make about their healthcare, their body, etc. I enjoy collaborating with a client's other healthcare providers to ensure they receive the individualized care they need.

I provide neurodiversity-affirming care. Many of my clients live with ADHD and/or identify as a Highly Sensitive Person.

I don't believe there is a certain way people are "supposed" to eat or nourish themselves. This is going to look different for everyone. I also don't believe that the pursuit of health is a requirement.

I practice from a Health at Every Size® perspective because I believe it is the most ethical. This perspective is most respectful of the client and lived experience is valued.

About Me & My Practice

My own eating disorder recovery prompted my desire to become a dietitian. My eating disorder recovery experience, however, was not rooted in HAES® or fat liberation. Thus, I had a lot of internalized weight bias that was reinforced when I went through my undergraduate dietetics program. Within the first couple of years working as a dietitian, I came to realize that the traditional approach to health and weight not only wasn't "working" but left clients feeling they were the ones to blame. I really questioned whether or not I wanted to continue working as a dietitian. Around that time, I came across Intuitive Eating, which provided a better lens in which I could provide care for clients over the next couple of years. And then I was introduced to HAES in 2015. I will forever be grateful to a fellow staff member (at the university I was working at the time) shared this philosophy with me. I can remember sitting at my desk researching more about HAES® and feeling so liberated!

Accessibility Considerations

ADA-accessible parking is available in the open lot and covered parking deck. There are also ADA-accessible sidewalks, Wave-to-Open sensors to open the building doors and the building has elevator access. Wide couches are available in waiting area and office. While restrooms are technically ADA-accessible, they are still difficult to navigate. Unfortunately, restrooms are not gender neutral.
