My Philosophy of Care
At my studio Clarity Fitness, our Certified Personal Trainers are vetted and trained from day 1 to be fat positive and eating disorder informed providers. When a client reaches out for personal training, we go through a quick and easy process to connect them with a trainer on the team who will be a best fit for their goals, mental and physical health history, fears, and relationship with movement. Should you request me and I'm accepting clients at the time, we'll get going with sessions as soon as you'd like! We encourage our clients to ditch the scale completely, and focus on what movement modalities bring joy and empowerment to them as individuals. Our mantra is "you are enough", and we remind you of that every step of the way!
About Me & My Practice
I personally came to this work through my own recovery from eating disorders and exercise addiction. HAES® principles quite literally saved my life, and I'm honored to be a part of their amazing work as a provider today! The Clarity Team and I work alongside educators in fat positive and accessibility spaces on a daily basis including but not limited to Ragen Chastain, Fringeish, Be Real, Education and Insight on Eating Disorders, Fed Up Collective, The Alliance, and more. Our trainers go through intensive onboarding training to encourage each client to advocate for what works, and doesn't work, for them as individuals, and our work with fat and superfat+ clients is part of every trainer's experience before and during their time with Clarity. We opened right before COVID in January 2020, and have been in this space online and in person since. We are advocating for change on a social justice level, as well as promoting fat liberation through the architecture, services, and resources provided at and through our studio. I am the proud momma of a dog named Lola, and a cat named Gizmo! I went to school at University of Miami in Florida for Industrial Engineering, where I became a personal trainer (plot twist), and started my ED recovery journey. I was born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, and love to watch crappy reality TV shows, laugh, play, and spend time with my loved ones!
Accessibility Considerations
Our virtual personal training services support a wide range of accessibility considerations, and we are just an email, call, or text away if there's anything we can do specifically to make your experience with us more positive. We are a wheelchair accessible facility and have multiple chair using clients. Our seating and class spacing is size inclusive, and almost all of our equipment is free-weight focused, which allows for us to avoid many issues with weight limits. Our cardio equipment unfortunately does have weight limits of 400 lbs, but we are constantly on the look out for equipment that has a higher weight limit. We do not encourage clients to do cardio during sessions, and trainers will take into consideration weight limits, comfortability, and access in all workout programming. Trainers go through training with Ragen Chastain and eating disorder informed educators in our onboarding process, and CEUs in fat positive and eating disorder informed lenses are required to remain an employee at Clarity Fitness.
