My Philosophy of Care
As a weight inclusive dietitian, I am passionate about supporting folks in healing their relationship with food and deconstructing + expanding how they view health and wellbeing. My approach honors the client as the expert of their body and experience - lived experience and autonomy are prioritized over any other goals as much as possible. My style is relational, curious, and reflective, and draws upon a variety of different models including motivational interviewing, DBT, CBT, and more. I practice from a Health at Every Size® perspective because it is a compassionate, whole-person approach to nutrition and wellbeing. The principles impact every aspect of my work. Health at Every Size® is incredibly important and illuminates an alternative to the many systems telling people their body is wrong or not enough. My nutrition counseling work is client-centered and based on exploring what a positive relationship with food would look like to each individual - there's no right answer! Here, we draw from the Health at Every Size® frameworks and Intuitive Eating principles as appropriate.
About Me & My Practice
My journey into the Health at Every Size community and eating disorder work was the product of many small seeds being planted over time. I was introduced to Health at Every Size® during my undergraduate years at the University of Michigan, and this was reinforced in graduate school at the School of Public Health. The seeds took root and grew once I started practicing as a dietitian and saw the harm folks were experiencing through the weight-centric model of healthcare. It became clear that this was a framework I wanted to use. Since then, I've steeped myself in books, courses, and conferences to educate myself on weight inclusive care and fat liberation, especially from folks with lived experience. Outside of work, I'm usually curled up on the couch reading with my two rescue dogs, Luna and Scout, laughing at an improv show, catching a deep breath in a yoga class, or trying new food around Detroit with my husband and friends.
Accessibility Considerations
My practice is currently 100% virtual, so stable wifi and access to a computer or phone is needed for sessions. We do our best to work together to figure out alternatives if these are not available to you.
