My Philosophy of Care

My Nutrition Philosophy: (1) Provide Individualized and Evidenced-Based Care. (2) All Foods Fit with Balance, Variety & Moderation. (3) Health Is Possible at Any & All Sizes. (4) Food is more than Nutritional Health. (5) Nutritional Health is more than Food. I practice from a weight-inclusive, HAES-aligned, fat-liberatory lens because providing an open and non-judgmental space for people is extremely important to me. I believe an individual can best tell me how they want to engage in health and what health means to them. With this information and patient consent, I will provide health information and nutrition counseling that is individualized and evidence-based as the patient is the one who is the true expert on their body and their experience. I will then be there to provide support and space where we can collaborate towards the individualized patient-centered health goals.

About Me & My Practice

I am a Health at Every Size® dietitian who was born in La Paz, Bolivia, and grew up in the Chicagoland area. Being a person of color, first-generation, queer, neurodiverse, disabled, and small-fat woman who grew up below the poverty threshold, can make living in this fatphobic world much more difficult than it needs to be at times. Growing up, I got sick, as many of us do; however, it wasn't as easy for me to simply pick up the phone, schedule an appointment, and boom...receive good health care (let alone just health care). I realized how hard life can be (mentally and physically) for many families and individuals. It is why I decided to pursue a career in health care with a focus on social justice and civic engagement. Nutritional health is more than just the absence of a disease or the number on the scale. It is important to learn about the intersections of oppression and how they impact the health and wellbeing of individuals and families. My mission is to provide individualized health care to all. My vision is to be a leader in transforming how health care is provided in the United States by combining a holistic individualized approach with evidence-based medicine. My core values in my practice include: Honesty, Empowerment, Diversity and Inclusion, Innovation, and Sustainability. Hence, I founded a business where I can continue working on dismantling oppressive systems and providing access to nutrition care.

Accessibility Considerations

I am completely virtual and happy to use closed captioning in sessions, as requested. I am also able to provide text communication during session and/or phone sessions. Interpreters are available upon request. Weight disclaimer: Weighing patients is not routinely done unless indicated. A conversation will be held before having any blind weight done. Insurance disclaimer: For some health insurance plans, using a weight diagnostic code will help get coverage for sessions. If this is the case, then a discussion will be held to determine if the patient would like to use the code for insurance coverage.
