My Philosophy of Care

I help people think less about food and body and free up more space to live their lives, through compassionate, whole-person nutrition and body image counseling. I believe Nutrition is a dangerous science. Popular culture has led us to (falsely) believe that almost every problem can be fixed with “self-discipline” and the “right” food choices. But giving food that much power actually feeds “the food police”: a judgmental, exhausting tape in our minds that shames, questions, and attacks our every dining decision. Using principles of Intuitive Eating and a non-diet approach, I help people liberate themselves from the food police and trust their own bodies to tell them what to eat and how to move. My goal is to help people break free of diet culture and reclaim their birthright of a connected and resilient relationship with their bodies. I help people understand and externalize weight stigma and cultivate internal power. I am committed to Health at Every Size® focused care because I believe that cultural shame and stigma associated with food and body are some of the most oppressive barriers to health we each face, and that we discover our most authentic happiness when we respect the body we have and treat it with compassion.

About Me & My Practice

I offer non-diet food and body counseling with a mission to help people think less about food and focus more energy on living a joyful, abundant life. In our work together, I help people explore their relationship to food and examine how their eating patterns intersect with their physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. I guide people in the release of body shame and the embrace of body trust. I graduated with a Master's of Science in Nutrition in 2014 from Bastyr University, and have been in private practice for eight years. My personal history includes eating disorder and chronic disease, which informs my focus on whole person (mind + body) health. Externalizing weight stigma and learning to navigate medical fatphobia was an important part of my journey that I draw on when helping others. I entered private practice in order to provide ethical, focused care. I am a good listener and give my patients time and space to redefine their own stories. I am also a critical thinker with a rebellious spirit, and can use my clinical training to help people untangle medical confusion and separate fact from fiction around weight, nutrition, and health.

Accessibility Considerations

I currently see all patients via secure telehealth. This is an ethical imperative during the Covid-19 pandemic, which has made safe in-person medical care inaccessible to many vulnerable groups. For patients without internet access, I can conduct phone visits depending on insurance and payment type. I offer limited sliding scale visits (as available) to provide access to un- and under-insured folks.
