My Philosophy of Care
As a dietitian specializing in eating disorder treatment, Health at Every Size® Care is so important to me because I’ve seen how eating disorder treatment leaves people of marginalized identities out. Eating disorder treatment seemed very “one size fits all” when I first experienced it (as the patient first then later as the clinician) and I couldn’t imagine myself practicing in a field that wasn’t inclusive. When I learned more about Health at Every Size®, it just made sense to me that of course this should be a thing! And from there, my passion for working with folks in eating disorder recovery was re-ignited and I’ve made it my mission to utilize the principles of Health at Every Size® in my work.
For me, this looks like providing highly individualized care that is client driven. I let my clients decide what their goals will be and we work on them collaboratively. Many clients express that working together was the first time they felt their needs were met with a provider when care wasn’t all about weight and “diet and “exercise.
About Me & My Practice
My private practice was founded in 2018 and has always been Health at Every Size® aligned. Before this, I struggled to find a work environment that upheld the same values as I had around weight, food, and bodies and starting my own business felt like the most logical next step. I’ve grown so much in my practice through being able to learn from leaders in the field and found it particularly beneficial to learn from people who hold different identities than myself or have a different lived experience.
Another part of my work I enjoy is assisting individuals in breaking down the barriers to nourishing themselves; including teaching basic cooking skills, kitchen organizing, meal planning, and supporting an ideal sensory environment.
Accessibility Considerations
My practice offers virtual and in person services. My in person office does require the use of stairs.
For virtual care, there is an option for sessions with closed captioning as well as text communication during session. I offer phone sessions as well.
I do not routinely weigh patients unless indicated for eating disorder recovery and this would be done using a numberless scale. For some health insurance plans, using a weight diagnostic code will help get coverage for sessions and if this is the case we will talk about it and you have the option to use a weight based code or not with your insurance.
