My Philosophy of Care
My body-inclusive work focuses on cultivating eating competence in people with dysfunctional eating behaviors such as compulsive or dissociative eating, over-exercising, or food restriction due to orthorexia, chronic dieting, and poor body image. I believe in taking a relational, collaborative, and experiential approach in empowering clients to engage in nourishing self-care that involves eating, feeding, moving, tuning in, and recovery. I can guide parents in creating positive feeding relationships with their children that also helps protect them against eating disorders. My mission is to facilitate the paradigm shift in how humans feed, eat and move their bodies: with trust, respect, gratitude, and joy!
About Me & My Practice
I have several decades of experience as a registered dietitian nutritionist and exercise physiologist. I embraced "non-diet" and internally regulated approaches to nourishment way back in the mid-1990s when I was fresh out of university, but soon learned these approaches are often "hijacked" for weight management. Soon after, I understood the horrors of weight stigma and adopted what I call a "body inclusive" lens. In the early 2000s when I was starting my family, I learned about the Satter Division of Responsibility in Feeding and the Eating Competence model, which eventually led to becoming a faculty member of the non-profit Ellyn Satter Institute. These models guide my learning, education, research, mentoring, and practice. Overall, I am passionate about facilitating people's journey towards a supportive and trusting relationship with food, eating, feeding, movement, and their bodies.
