My Philosophy of Care

I have been grateful to remain mostly outside of the medical institutions that I am trying to make less harmful, for the health of both people working within them, and people trying to access support. I have been grateful to learn from people who are making the connections between anti-Blackness and anti-fatness, ableism, healthism, cisheteropatriarchy, capitalism, and colonialism. People work with me for a little or a long time, sometimes coming and going over time, as they see fit. We try to navigate the barriers, make connections with the other people who are also trying to heal, and invest in the hope that comes from the long lineages of healing that are part of human history, even if the specifics shift over time.

About Me & My Practice

I am one of the founders of the HAES® model back in the '80s and '90s, and have been involved in its ongoing revisions. Along the way I have tried to nurture ways for people to find each other in communities that are holding a different vision of a good life from the traditional pursuit of whiteness and thinness. I am also a Fellow in the Academy for Eating Disorders and have been doing harm reduction in the field of eating disorders since becoming a psychologist in 1993. I am licensed in California and Washington (state) and I am doing telehealth only at this time.

Accessibility Considerations

I am doing video sessions that use the encrypted Doxy.me platform, which can use either a smart phone or computer, and this has meant more people are finding my practice accessible than the days I was seeing people in my SF Bay Area offices. The most immediate barrier is that my practice is often full, and my sliding fee slots are almost always full.
