My Philosophy of Care

Behavior change requires time, effort, and resources. To have all of these things requires immense privilege. Our culture and healthcare systems create barriers to impede treatment and neglect care for individuals who are stigmatized due to the size of their bodies. Healing and true rapport are pillars to develop safe and vulnerable relationships with providers. You deserve an environment free of judgment and shame. We are committed to your understanding that what you are struggling with is not your fault. At Mend Therapy we serve people of all sizes and shapes, abilities, races, representations, and orientations. You are the expert of yourself. As your provider, we want to be your teammate, helping you create space for yourself to meet your wants and needs of self care. Our approach is rooted in individualized, size-affirming care with you at the core. The credentials at the end of our names represent our education and training as experts in nutrition and physical therapy. As providers, our priority is to guide you to become the true expert of yourself. This does include rigid rules and unrealistic expectations. You're behind the wheel and we'll be the passenger pilot - there to offer you guidance, not make the decision - at Mend Therapy you determine what health means for you.

About Me & My Practice

Two priorities within Emma’s approach to care include trust and vulnerability. Working to find peace and acceptance with food and our bodies requires unlearning the societal-norm of what our health and appearance “should be.” Given this, shame and guilt are often tied to the ways in which we take care of ourselves. Emma looks to work with her clients, guiding them to navigate and find understanding in their relationship with food and their bodies. This involves unconditional permission for them to show up for themselves and their values in life. Through a fat positive, Health at Every Size® (HAES®) approach, Emma works with her clients to find peace with food utilizing non-diet nutrition counseling. This can include dismantling disordered eating and chronic dieting, navigating a new chronic illness through medical nutrition therapy, intuitive eating, and body acceptance and liberation. Emma is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and Certified Intuitive Eating Counseling. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Simmons College with a minor in photography. She completed her Dietetic Internship at Aramark Healthcare in Philadelphia, PA. In 2020 she took her passion for this work into academia. She is currently in MGH Institute of Health Professions’ MS/PhD program and a Teaching Assistant at Harvard Extension School. Her strongest aspiration as a healthcare provider is to facilitate change within education by providing an evidence-based, safe, care.
