My Philosophy of Care
I approach working with each client from an individual perspective. I focus on you being the expert of your life and your body and using that with my knowledge of attuned eating, relationship with food and your body to enhance your connection to yourself, support freeing yourself from diet culture and enhance your quality of life. In sessions, we explore what food was like growing up, how food and relationship to your body has impacted you and how more freedom with both can liberate you.
I practice from a Health at Every Size® perspective because I believe that every body needs care and space to be their authentic self including the genetic blueprint that their body was designed to be. Being a Health at Every Size® provider to me, means shifting health to focus more on well being, quality of life and caring for your wonderful body without the confines of narrowly defined health parameters. I take an expansive view of 'health' and focus instead on the social, mental, physical, emotional and spiritual 'health' that impact us.
About Me & My Practice
I've been a Dietitian for over a decade, I've been practicing as a Food Therapist and from a Health at Every Size® perspective for the past 7 years. I was trained in a weight normative setting, spent hours unlearning the harmful beliefs it taught. I have taken Health at Every Size® trainings, explored many books and discussed HAES® principles at length with supervisors and fellow clinicians. I frequently reach out to my client's medical providers to advocate on their behalf, send letters requesting certain topics/discussions be off limits and talk with other providers about medical fatphobia and the harm it causes patients.
I have a wonderful goldendoodle named, Watson (after the supercomputer) who occasionally shows up in session and we go on walks and hike the Seattle area regularly. I'm an avid home cook and love to ferment foods, bake breads and every Christmas, make twice fried buttermilk brined fried chicken for dinner.
I regularly support fat creators and activists with Patreon, purchasing merchandise and other financial donations.
Accessibility Considerations
My practice is currently all virtual.
Prior to the pandemic, my office had a wheelchair accessible elevator, my weight limit on the office furniture was 450 lbs and specifically chosen for the extra long and wide cushions on the couch.
