My Philosophy of Care

My philosophy of care begins and ends with your needs. I hope that our work can be a collaborative process where you and your comfort are at the centre of our journey together. My approach to conversations about mental health come from a desire to restore and reclaim the idea of health to mean our own personalized desires, values and best hopes. Having these kinds of conversations might mean re-evaluating what “health” means, and identifying the ways that preconceived ideas of health have caused harm.

My philosophy of care includes setting a pace that fits your needs and fostering feelings of empowerment and self-growth. Part of caring for ourselves might also mean identifying systems that most impact us, and then learning to put the responsibility on the systems that propagate harm, moving blame and burden away from the self. By doing this, we can move from a state of internalized self blame, to one of self-advocacy, self-love and security.

About Me & My Practice

For a long time, I struggled to feel comfortable in my body. I spent a lot of time trying to shrink my body because I believed that I could only love myself under a specific set of conditions- conditions that were set and maintained by diet culture. Luckily for me, I worked through all the ways I hated myself, and (eventually) developed a deep and meaningful sense of trust and security. Now, I’m a happy human, experiencing a kind of joy that I didn’t know was possible. I hope to help you develop the same sense of peace and security. I want you to trust yourself in ways that you didn’t know were possible. In order to do this very hard, very painful work, I believe that we need to look inside of ourselves to develop a keen understanding of the values that we hold, while also identifying the values that we want to hold. Once we are nested firmly in the values we want to live by, we can treat ourselves with the kindness and care that we deserve.

Accessibility Considerations

I offer two separate office spaces. Each office uses a separate entrance, with two small steps up into each space, and there is no waiting room. Once you open the door, you’re in the office. Currently, I offer individual sessions, so the room is set up as such. One space offers a wide set chair for clients- chosen to accommodate bodies of many sizes, while also providing a comfortable, cozy environment. The chair is rated for up to 400lbs. The second office space offers a larger couch that is rated for up to 600lbs.

Once in the office, there is access to a small bathroom. There are no additional stairs, and the bathroom is steps away from the office.

I offer in-person and virtual sessions, which means that you can engage in session from the comfort of your own home, if preferred.

I can accommodate any preference for masks/face shields, etc. I have an air purifier that runs throughout the day, and we can make use of the ceiling fan for additional air flow. I do not use any scented candles/artificial scents, while sometimes I do run an essential oil diffuser. Please let me know if you require any accommodation regarding scents and/or perfumes.

I am open to any and all suggestions regarding accommodation. If you have a specific need that I have not addressed, please feel free to let me know.
