My Philosophy of Care

Working from the theoretical lens of a Naturopathic Physician, my philosophy of care is grounded in the 6 principles of Naturopathic Medicine. The six principles are first do no harm, healing power of nature, identify and treat the causes, doctor as teacher, treat the whole person, and prevention.

My approach with patients, to meet them where they are; and to listen carefully to their health goals/concerns; basically, why did they come see me. And to create a unique tailored plan specific to the patient.

I practice from a Health at Every Size® perspective because I know what it is like to have healthcare practitioners dismiss the main reason you came to see them only to focus the conversation about weight reduction. As stated above, it’s important to meet patients where they are; and where they want to go. My goal as a healthcare practitioner is to empower my patients to be an active participant in their health goals. I am on their team.

About Me & My Practice

Growing up I dealt with weight and body image issues stemming from family criticism especially from my mom and cousin. I remember when my cousin told me that to be successful, I needed to be thin and asked me don't you want your future husband to be able to carry you across the threshold?

I felt sad, disempowered, insecure and incredibly angry. The anger turned to spite; the spite fueled my fire, my resolve. In that moment I took my power back and promised myself to always act with confidence and to do things on my terms, in my own way. Today I take great pride with instilling confidence and empowering my patients to ultimately choose themselves, to invest in themselves to achieve optimal health and a life without the limits of poor health, self -doubt and self- criticism.

When I am not seeing patients or researching; I enjoy getting out into nature especially the ocean…water just calls me home. I like practicing my archery, and taking hikes with my fur baby, Pebbles, and my husband. You may find me dancing along to cover bands or just curled in the corner reading whatever book has piqued my interest.

Accessibility Considerations

For my in-person services, the building where my office is located, is equipped with ADA accessibility, from handicap parking up front, wheelchair ramp, and ADA sized hallway bathrooms. My office is right on the light rail line and near public transportation stations.

The office itself is equipped with different types of chairs, one with arms and one without arms. For vital signs, I have blood pressure cuffs are varying sizes for different body types. I do not weigh or calculate BMI unless the patient consents and only if it is important to the patient. I am in the process of ordering larger gowns to have them handy.

I do not have office staff. I am a one woman show. At the first appointment I ask how the patient would like to be addressed and their preferred pronouns. Before I examine a patient, I always ask permission and explain the procedures of the examination.
