My Philosophy of Care
I believe that you are the expert of your own experience, and that my role as your therapist is to work alongside you to explore and conquer barriers to personal growth and promote positive change and healing. Having had experience as both a therapist and therapy client, I have an acute understanding of the importance of the client-therapist relationship in impacting successful therapy. I practice trauma-informed, integrative psychotherapy using a combination of treatment approaches depending on the individual needs of each client. This enables me to provide individualized therapy that builds on my clients’ strengths. I became a Health at Every Size® therapist after experiencing the consequences of systemic fatphobia and weight bias during a 25+ year personal battle with an eating disorder. Unfortunately the treatment I received was steeped in fatphobic and weight-biased practices which only served to prolong and worsen my ED. When I finally learned about HAES®, I was able to recover from my ED. It changed everything for me! I want this for my clients too! As a HAES therapist, I believe in body diversity, respect and autonomy for individuals of all body sizes. I actively help my clients advocate for themselves in the oppressive systems they have to navigate on a daily basis. As a therapist, I strive to provide a warm, inclusive and collaborative environment for my clients and encourage ongoing client feedback.
About Me & My Practice
I first learned about HAES® almost 5 years ago. I have completed a 3-month intuitive eating intensive course where I worked 1:1 with a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor to learn about Intuitive Eating principles. I have taken many many more courses on the HAES® framework of care since then in order to best support my clients who struggle with food and body image issues. I also have personal experience recovering from a long-term eating disorder and body image issues by seeking care from health at every size providers. I know firsthand how life changing recovery based on the HAES® framework of care can be. I work with my clients to identify ways to advocate for themselves while navigating oppressive systems. I also frequently remind my clients that they do not owe anyone health!
Accessibility Considerations
Our in-person office has size-inclusive seating and clients only interact directly with their individual therapist. We do not have a receptionist or other staff onsite. I make a point to ask all my clients for their pronouns and to use the appropriate pronouns with each client per the client's request. I do not offer any therapeutic interventions without first asking for my client's consent as my goal is to provide a supportive environment for my clients to build safety and trust over time.
