My Philosophy of Care

Health at Every Size® is central to my identity both as a therapist and an individual. I am deeply passionate about working to dismantle anti-fat bias and changing the way that the medical community and society as a whole approach body shape, weight, and size. I believe that a HAES® orientation is critical to fostering a safe environment for all clients and necessary in both the prevention of eating disorders and trauma and in the provision of mental health treatment. A social justice and intersectional feminist approach is deeply woven into who I am and how I show up with clients. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and am passionate about helping individuals explore identity. I welcome and strive to create a safe, empowering space for clients of all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. I believe that a client's lived experience is of the utmost importance in developing a care plan to help clients reach their goals. Many times my clients have developed ways to cope and protect themselves during difficult past experiences and those ways of coping no longer serve them. My approach involves addressing behaviors of concern by helping clients identify triggers, build a new repertoire of coping skills to regulate the nervous system, learn to conceptualize issues differently, and explore how past experiences are linked to present concerns. I value and respect the importance of the therapeutic relationship and attachment.

About Me & My Practice

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in the DC area. Im grateful that I learned about Health at Every Size® at the beginning of my career as a therapist, while working in Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs treating eating disorders. I’m an avid reader and enjoy keeping up with the latest books and peer-reviewed articles related to HAES® and fat activism. I also have attended numerous trainings and seminars led by HAES®-aligned fat activists and providers. Additionally, I seek on-going consultation and supervision related to HAES® and believe that learning is never finished. Activism is an important part of my work, and I educate other providers I work with about HAES® and work to ensure all the providers on my client’s teams are providing HAES®-aligned care. Outside of work, I enjoy making pottery, playing with my 2 dogs, and doing puzzles and word games.

Accessibility Considerations

I offer virtual sessions via a secure telehealth platform. I also offer in-person sessions. For in-person sessions, please be aware that my office space is on the second floor of a building without an elevator. There is one flight of stairs. The couch in my office has a weight limit of approximately 500 lbs. I’m happy to speak with potential clients about accessibility accommodations to make sessions accessible and inclusive to you.
