My Philosophy of Care
I use mindful self-compassion and body-based practices to help women begin to let go of learned beliefs about their bodies and begin to relate a little more gently with themselves. Using a client centered approach, I work within my client's perspectives, honoring that each client is an expert on themselves and their lived experiences. I am anti-diet, fat positive, and integrate Health at Every Size®. I support clients in recognizing and challenging harmful messages in society about food, bodies, and health. We explore how external messages have led to them disconnecting from their bodies, and work to increase their awareness and connection of their bodies. I believe that we all have the resources we need within us, but due to past experiences and societal messages, we've disconnected from our true selves. Therapy is a way to begin to reconnect with ourselves.
About Me & My Practice
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and have over six years of experience, with three years spent working directly with clients struggling with eating disorders. I have worked at high levels-of-care and the outpatient setting, and have specialized training in working with athletes with eating disorders. Through my own body journey, I have worked to challenge learned beliefs about diet culture and anti-fatness, and I integrate principles of social justice in both my personal and professional lives. By unpacking my own beliefs, I've learned to practice compassion for myself and my humanness, as well as the humanness of others, and I strive to show up as authentically as I can in the therapy space. In addition to my therapy work, I enjoy being active, spending time in nature, traveling, and hanging out with dogs (both my own and those at local shelters).
Accessibility Considerations
My office lobby has multiple seating options including sturdy chairs without arms and the office itself offers a high weight capacity couch that is high off the ground. There is an all gender bathroom. My office is located at the top of one set of stairs; virtual sessions are available and provided on a HIPAA compliant platform with closed captioning available.
