My Philosophy of Care
I've been a dedicated activist for social justice in many arenas and across 50 years, and my work with people who have been profoundly affected by poverty, inadequate access to healthcare, education, and decent housing, as well as facing the stigmas imposed on many marginalized people has been the backbone of my clinical work. I also approach my clinical engagement with clients from within the relationship that we establish. Whether a client has chosen to work with me because I am fat, or they discover that upon meeting me, their reactions, thoughts and feelings become a part of the fabric of our therapeutic relationship.
About Me & My Practice
For 40 years I worked in community mental health providing psychoeducation, support and family psychotherapy with the parents, siblings, adult children and close family friends of adults who experience psychiatric and/or substance abuse symptoms. I've been a Fat Liberation activist since 1978, which informs my work with each client's search for making peace with and within their bodies. My own experiences with disabilities, temporary and permanent has deepened my work with clients who might be facing their own life changes.
Accessibility Considerations
I conduct all of my therapy sessions via Zoom online, so having access to a means to access this service, and having a comfortable, safe place to engage in the therapy hour are needed.
