My Philosophy of Care

I work with teens (ages 16+) and adults of all ages who are struggling with eating disorders, body image distress, and emotion regulation problems (like suicidal thoughts, self-harm behaviors, and difficulty communicating with others). In my sessions, I combine elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and focus on building a strong, trusting therapy relationship to work toward individual goals. I am passionate about helping people improve their relationship with food and their bodies and to learn more effective ways to manage strong emotions.

My approach to working with folks on changing eating behaviors and body image centers around Health at Every Size® principles. I am completely anti-diet and reject the harmful and oppressive beliefs that promote weight stigma and anti-fat bias. Much of my work focuses on helping people eat regularly, adequately, flexibly, and intuitively, along with incorporating physical movement that is enjoyable and not punishing.

I also believe that it is imperative to acknowledge the impact of systems of oppression, like racism, sexism, anti-fat bias, and ableism, on mental health. I hold a lot of privilege and am committed to ongoing learning and engagement in anti-oppressive practice. One way that I aim to advocate for my clients is by consulting with their other providers and people around them to provide education, to point out potential harm being done, and to collaborate on ways to support clients.

About Me & My Practice

I have received a lot of formal training in treating eating disorders and problems related to emotion regulation. However, my passion for combating diet culture and weight stigma started much before my training, when I was in high school. This is when my own journey with intuitive eating and Health at Every Size® started, and it fueled my passion to specialize in helping people with eating disorders. As someone who has experienced body size fluctuation and is now in a fat body, I have seen firsthand some of the harmful effects of anti-fat bias. I also have experienced the healing, peace, and joy that has come with recovery and incorporating Health at Every Size® principles in my daily life.

In addition to my experience with Health at Every Size®, I also was born an emotionally sensitive human. Thus, I have personally seen the ways emotion dysregulation can derail someone’s goals and well-being. I love working with folks to help them understand, process, and manage their strong emotions to act in ways that align with their values and goals. All of the skills and techniques I share with my clients I have used in my own life, and I aim to show up as my authentic self in my work.

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, trying new foods and restaurants, cooking, crocheting, watching reality shows, and spending time with my partner and our dog, Leo.

Accessibility Considerations

I currently only see folks virtually. This may be challenging for folks who struggle with looking at screens for long periods of time or who struggle to pay attention during video calls. It also may be difficult if you do not have access to a private space from which to attend therapy sessions. Please consider these potential challenges. If you are unsure whether this will be difficult and/or are willing to try it out, I am happy to discuss this during our sessions and problem-solve potential options to make the sessions more effective and comfortable for you.
