My Philosophy of Care

I approach my patients with a focus on promoting health and well-being regardless of body size or weight, taking into account their limitations and all determinants of health such as access to it, work environment, equity, and what they want and need in that precise moment, maybe they need understanding of their limitations and not a prescription of life interventions which they are not going to be able to put into practice because of how their environment is affecting them. It involves moving away from traditional weight-centered medical practices that focus on weight loss and BMI as the primary measures of health, and instead prioritizes patients' overall health, including physical, emotional, and mental health, and their individual health goals. In practice, Also because I work with marginalized folks I have to consider the systemic discrimination and oppression, because of the pathologization of bodies, work to promote body diversity and fight fatphobia and weight bias. I recognize the impact of weight stigma and discrimination on patients' health and well-being and work to create a safe and supportive environment for all my patients. I also advocate for policies and practices that address weight stigma and promote health equity, although I'm always saying that if you need scientific evidence to respect and treat with compassion your patients, maybe the problem is you, and your practice as a doctor; weight stigma and its consequences on health are very well documented

About Me & My Practice

I'm a fat woman who has always wanted to become a doctor, I´ve always felt the calling to take care of people. While living in a fat body I've suffered discrimination and oppression in life in general but also in my field, because of internalized fat phobia I thought this was normal, I deserved it, I was a chronic dieter since I can remember, always losing and gaining the same 70 pounds. When I got my medical degree, and I started my private practice, I worked with what I was taught, I then specialized in nutrition and diabetes because that's what I saw the most, but I came to a point where all my patients were coming back, unhappy because they have “failed”. So I took a step back just before the pandemic hit and analyzed my practice and came to realize that I was prescribing what already have failed me so many times, “diets”. Also I didn't bear in mind the environment of my patients, their limitations, their wishes, I just gave them commands, so I needed a change, and I started to look for one, everywhere, social media, google, books, everywhere, and I found first fat liberation books, which lead me to “non diet approach” in Australia!! Far far away from home, I came to learn about HAES® from Dr. Fiona Willer and since then I committed to provide evidence-based, patient-centered care that promotes health and well-being for all patients, regardless of their body size or weight. Treat patients with respect, empathy, and kindness truly taking care of people and not a number.

Accessibility Considerations

Most of my practice is online, but when I do have in person I do have everything up to 4xl, i do everything myself so I don't have a nurse helping me, the building is wheelchair accessible.
