My Philosophy of Care

With an eclectic bunch of tools in my toolbox, I support my clients in the development of self-compassion, infinite permission, and in releasing the unnecessary. I am a playful, creative, permission-based, relational therapist. I work mainly with adults, young people, members of the LGTBQIA+ community, couples/relationships, and anyone hoping to gain some peace, freedom and calm within their internal experience. I have much experience and training working with gender nonconforming youth and adults. The feedback I receive from clients is that my style is comfortable, warm, compassionate, and authentic.

About Me & My Practice

I have been practicing from a Health at Every Size® lens since before it had an official name. My body has been every size possible, from being "diagnosed with obesity" to almost starving myself to death in my early 20s, and in that journey I learned that there was not a body shape that would be "the answer". For a decade I was a professor of Weight & Society at George Washington University. It was a body justice course that explored the myths of current measures of health, our culture's thin idealism, and society's relentless oppression of large bodies. I now train other professionals, clinics, and organizations in doing less harm in a thin-obsessed world. I have been interviewed for various articles and broadcasts, including NPR, and co-hosts a podcast that explores how psychotherapy conspires, at times, with the many oppressive systems that cause the majority of our modern mental suffering. I am a second-generation yoga teacher, certified at the highest level, with experience teaching every iteration of the ancient art. I am also a psychic healer, an artist, a DJ, and a writer. I grew up in Northern California, then was a west coast transplant in New York City and Washington DC for over 20 years. In August 2023, my partner of 20 years and I, and our 3 chihuahuas moved to Palm Springs, California where I am grateful every day for the dry heat, the big open sky, and the desert vibrations.

Accessibility Considerations

I mainly practice virtually. However, in the office that I have access to when seeing clients in person, it is on the first floor and the amenities are accessible to all sizes.
