My Philosophy of Care

My approach to health is rooted in what my clients want. They can pursue health, however they see it, or not. It’s my role to support them toward their values/goals. Being a HAES® provider is important to me because I’ve seen how harmful the weight centric approach is for clients, friends, family, and even more broad than that. I feel like it’s my job to support them with their own goals and desires, and also to provide them with information to help them make the decisions they want, with the information needed make decisions. It’s up to them to pursue health or not, to pursue body neutrality or positivity, or not, or whatever they want.

I apply HAES® framework to my work by getting curious with my clients as they bring up concerns and desires for changing their body, eating habits, movement, and experiences in the world related to those same aspects of life. We focus on acceptance, neutrality, and acknowledge systemic, environmental, and other factors that are outside of their locus of control. All clients deserve to be as nourished as they can be, and to eat according to needs not body size.

About Me & My Practice

I'm a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist based in Salt Lake City, Utah. I've got over a decade of experience as a dietitian and food blogger. I've worked at hospitals, in worksite wellness, and in a college health center. These positions, and the clients/patients I worked with have lead me to transition from a prescriptive, weight centric approach to one that's more of a sounding board/supportive role for my clients. Experiences in my past jobs also have lead me to practice through the lens of body neutrality, HAES®, and harm reduction.

Accessibility Considerations

I meet with all clients virtually, the only accessibility considerations I can think of are access to the internet and accessibility concerns for folks with visual and hearing impairments. I'm willing, and would want to work with them to use their supports. I would likely need to refer out for clients who don't have access to the internet (if they're using health insurance) as phone or other communication methods aren't covered. There are a few clinics and hospitals (with in person appointments) with good access to public transportation. Or if they want/feel comfortable, they can join sessions at a library or somewhere more public. I can't think of other scenarios, but am open to adapting as needed.
