My Philosophy of Care

I use a non-diet, intuitive eating, Health at Every Size® approach in my practice. I help my clients to let go of dieting/eating disorder mentality and behaviors and learn to rely on their internal cues to guide their eating. I help them to approach food and their body with less rigidity, judgement and control and more diversity, acceptance, and care. I help them to incorporate mindfulness, curiosity and self-compassion.
I believe that health incorporates both physical and psychological well being. I believe that health is not a moral obligation and looks different for each individual. I do not believe that one's health is determined by their weight or body size.
To me, being a Health at Every Size® Provider means that I provide respectful and equal care to people in all body shapes and sizes; I acknowledge my own biases and work to diminish weight stigma in healthcare; and encourage eating and movement based on individual internal needs and abilities.
I practice from a HAES® perspective because I believe in not doing harm and this perspective aligns with my own personal and professional values.

About Me & My Practice

I have been practicing from a Health at Every Size® lens for at least the past 7 years but I learned about it 10-12 years before that. I came to this work after a few years of working as an outpatient dietitian at a hospital and feeling frustrated trying to help people lose weight and then searching for another way to work with people on their health and wellbeing.
Outside of work, I like spending time with my three children, my husband, our sweet puppy, and friends. I enjoy being active outside running, walking, and hiking; listening to music, podcasts and books; and watching shows on Netflix.

Accessibility Considerations

My practice is virtual which makes it easily accessible for all sizes; those in wheelchairs as well as disabilities such as hearing and vision impairments.
