My Philosophy of Care
I help clients achieve their nutritional goals through collaborative care using the client's knowledge of their own life and body. When relevant, we discuss the available scientific evidence and I share any relevant clinical experience and observations. I use therapeutic techniques to determine my clients' readiness to change, help them set measurable and specific goals and consider their life experiences in their goal setting. I provide inclusive care to all people with all identities in all bodies.
About Me & My Practice
My full name is Shira Hirshberg (she/her) and I am licensed in RI and MA. I did my graduate work in nutrition at URI and my clinical training at Brigham and Women’s in Boston. I’ve taught college classes, worked in gastroenterology, primary care and endocrinology clinics and am now happily focused on my private practice. I aim to provide weight-neutral care and think the BMI is trash. I have 3 fairly little kids, a 100 lb mutt and a partner at home.
I help my clients advocate for themselves with other healthcare providers when this is needed due to fatphobia, gender or age-based discrimination.
