My Philosophy of Care
Working as an RN at the hospital, I saw weight stigma and Anti-Fat bias everyday, in a thousand ways, big and small. It was in report from the other nurses, the doctors during rounds, in the treatment plans (terms like non-compliant diabetic), and in the lack of proper equipment- the list goes on.
I internalized those messages and developed an eating disorder. After years of the shame/restrict/binge/shame cycle encouraged by doctors prescribing me more and more restrictive diets, I finally found help. I was so fortunate to find a HAES and Intuitive Eating informed therapist. It changed my life! I found peace.
This is why I am passionate about helping others to break free from these systems of oppression and utilizing the HAES philosophy, principles and definition of health. I support clients to examine their own internalized anti-fat bias and find a more compassionate way of viewing themselves. From there, from a place of knowing they deserve to trust themselves and deserve access to quality healthcare, I support clients in developing strong self-advocacy skills and while navigating their healthcare journey.
About Me & My Practice
As a nurse, Intuitive Eating coach, and the creator of the Food Attachment model, I support clients in healing their food and body relationship from the trauma of internalized anti-fat bias/weight stigma and building resilience against those systems of oppression.
Together, we focus on building connection and trust with food and body relationship, rather than trying to control or manage food/body (which only increases shame and makes everything worse!). Using an attachment lens, we get to the root of food/body behavior patterns like preoccupation and avoidance that were developed as survival strategies but don't feel great.
I absolutely love this work and am currently writing a book about how to heal from disordered eating. I am so passionate about having a big impact by disrupting diet culture! When I am not working I enjoy exploring the nature near my home in the PNW, traveling and going on adventures of any size with my friends and partners (I practice consensual non-monogamy), as well as deepening my own recovery from disordered eating (since 2017) and alcohol/substance use (since 1998) by engaging in self-care, spiritual practices, seeking mentorship, and community building.
