My Philosophy of Care
I believe there is healing power in our stories.
In my counseling sessions, I help people reclaim their food and body stories from the untrue, and at times harmful narratives that they have internalized from the oppressive systems that we live in. Messages like, “You have to eat less/lose weight in order to be healthy,” “If it tastes good, it can’t be good for you,” and “Everyone should strive to be healthy.” I support people in reconnecting with and learning to trust their inner wisdom so that they can redefine health, wellbeing, and nourishment on their own terms.
I have had the honour of holding space for the food and body stories of individuals from all walks of life. Many of my clients have shared with me that our sessions are the only space where they are able to talk about food, eating, nutrition, and body, and in some cases, the first time they have shared these parts of their story with another individual.
By speaking our stories, it allows us to make visible the parts of our history and the oppressive systems that we live in that have severed the trust that we might have had in food, in our bodies, and in ourselves, while giving us clues as to where and how we can start rebuilding that relationship.
As you are the main character and the expert of your story, I see myself simply in a supporting role, providing gentle guidance as needed as we uncover parts of your past to help navigate the path forward.
About Me & My Practice
My name is Vincci (like “da Vinci,” but without the “da.”) I’m a registered dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor who dreams of a world where everyone has easy, equitable access to the resources necessary to meet their needs—physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, culturally, and more. It’s this vision that guides the work that I do with individuals and fellow clinicians alike.
In my counselling sessions, I take a collaborative, compassionate, and inclusive approach to nutrition care that is informed by anti-oppression, social justice, Health at Every Size®, intuitive eating, mindful eating, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care concepts.
Outside of my individual client work, I am the founder of Weight-Inclusive Dietitians in Canada (WIDIC) and author of "The Mindful Eating Workbook: Simple Practices for Nurturing a Positive Relationship with Food"
Accessibility Considerations
In-person: There is street parking in front of the building. Sunalta LRT is approximately 450 m (6 min walk) from the building, and there are stops for Bus route 90 nearby. There is one step to enter the building, and an elevator to access the 3rd floor office. The seat of the chair in my office measures 50 cm (19.5") wide and 61 cm (24") deep.
Virtual (Zoom) and phone appointments also available.
