My Philosophy of Care
I am passionate about working with my clients to challenge beliefs around nutrition and health that have held them back from discovering freedom, pleasure, and connection to food. I practice from non-diet, Intuitive Eating, and Health at Every Size® frameworks. I value collaborative care and work with your team of allied health professionals as needed to provide well-rounded care as you navigate building a healthy relationship with food and your body.
Being a Health at Every Size® provider means that I believe in the right for all people, regardless of size, to receive consensual, competent and respectful care. Practicing from a weight-inclusive perspective aligns with my core values of compassion, connection, and respect, and enables me to partner with my clients in building (or re-building!) a relationship with food and body that is rooted in self-respect, self-knowledge, and pleasure. I will never recommend weight loss interventions to my clients.
I strive to be anti-racist, culturally affirming, social justice-oriented, and trauma-informed in my approach. I am fat-positive and welcoming of individuals of all bodies, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and cultural backgrounds. I show up with my whole self to sessions, and bring not only my expertise, but also my warmth, compassion, humor, and collaborative spirit.
About Me & My Practice
As many nutrition professionals, I entered the world of nutrition and dietetics with a disordered relationship with food and my body. I was introduce to Health at Every Size® and Intuitive Eating in 2016, which significantly shifted not just my own relationship with food and body, but shaped my clinical approach. Additionally, my introduction to these frameworks has spurred deep learning about the role of systemic forms of oppression and the trauma that results in the development and maintenance of eating disorders and general health outcomes. I am committed to ongoing learning so that I can continue to be an inclusive clinician.
I am an advocate for all my clients, especially those impacted by medical anti-fatness. As a frequent interdisciplinary collaborator, I have no qualms about sharing my knowledge about the harms of the weight-centric paradigm with other clinicians and laypeople when appropriate.
Outside of my work, I enjoy snuggling with my cat Frankie, reading with a good latte, and swimming in the gorgeous lakes of the Pacific Northwest in the summer.
