My Philosophy of Care

I work in collaboration with my clients and hope to empower them to use dietary interventions to manage GI issues and heal from diet trauma instead of using food to manipulate their bodies for thinness by meeting them where they are and providing space to heal.

I practice from a Health at Every Size® perspective because it is inclusive and non-judgemental. It not only guides how I treat my clients' diagnoses, but how I advocate for them in a weight-centric medical space. I believe that the HAES® principles will help the healthcare field reduce harm from weight stigma and fatphobic dogma the more of us that know about and practice them. Therefore, part of my mission as a HAES® RD is to share them with providers and with clients in order to push for equality and justice in healthcare. When we know better, we do better.

About Me & My Practice

I have been a Registered Dietitian for 29 years and, from the start, avoided working in weight loss because I hadn't yet found the "magic bullet." I was of the belief that my body was not a representation of a "successful" RD in that space. I knew first-hand what it felt like to fail at dieting; I had been doing it since I was nine years old and never found anything that "worked." Instead, I found poor self-esteem, a debilitating body image, an eating disorder that went undiagnosed for decades, and guilt and shame associated with food in every category.

Then one day, I hit rock bottom debating the "virtue" of an apple, and I saw the ridiculousness that is diet culture. Soon after, I found HAES® and remembered reading "Intuitive Eating" in graduate school, and then all the pieces fell into place for me to start sharing this knowledge with others.

I am so grateful to this social justice movement and community and I welcome you to join us in dismantling diet culture and healing your relationship with your body and your belly (GI pun and literally your belly).

Accessibility Considerations

My practice is 100% virtual so come as you are! There is no weighing or measuring of your body and you can meet with me from your most comfortable seat or your bed. I offer both video and phone sessions. I use Zoom which has a closed-caption feature.
