My Philosophy of Care

While my philosophy around the way we eat, move, play and perceive our bodies and their place in the world owes a great deal of gratitude to the people who formed IE and HAES®, my approach has also been impacted by the wonderful people who came after them; the folk who helped me see these philosophies as wonderful starting points, but also that there is much more work to be done in the the name of body liberation for all bodies. The ways in which we perceive our bodies in the world are impacted by the ways others react to them. Not only does body size impact our interaction with our world, but racial identity, religious belief, gender identity, trauma history, socioeconomic background, sexuality, neurodivergence, and so much more, all inform the people we are, our understanding of and emotional connection to our body’s history. For these reasons, I can’t be the expert in the room when we work together – that will be your role. I humbly acknowledge the specific and limited scope of experiences I’ve had as a white, cis-gendered woman with thin privilege. As we work together, I want to learn from you what your experience has been and how best I can be of service to you in getting to a place where your focus in life is on your values, the experiences you love, the people you care about and the work that energizes you — not on a goal of changing your body.

About Me & My Practice

I am a registered dietitian practicing in Portland, Oregon. While I learned a bit about Intuitive Eating in my studies at Oregon State University and at Oregon Health and Sciences University, it wasn't until I opened my private practice and immersed myself in the Columbia River Eating Disorder Network community that I fully began the 'unlearning' of the harmful dogma of the medical industry. For the past 10+ I have dedicated my practice to the care of folks in all bodies, includes people who identify as superfat, and have grown so much as a provider in ways I could not possibly grow in the clinical setting. The brilliant humans I encounter everyday keep me coming back for more! When I'm not at work I am sitting on the couch with my cat, Pippa, and a good true crime novel, planting in my garden or on adventures with my husband. I enjoy family, good friends and good food!

Accessibility Considerations

I provide virtual meetings Monday through Thursday. This requires internet connectivity for clients. I also offer limited in person sessions every other Monday in my SW Portland office. The office is on the second floor. There is an elevator for folks with limited mobility. The bathroom on the second floor is wheelchair accessible with a key code. There is a parking lot, as well as street parking available. Additionally, bus services regularly stop near my building. I do not have employees other than myself, so clients working with me will not encounter anyone other than myself at appointments. I have a standard 3 seat sofa in my current office, which has a standard weight capacity up to 750 pounds.
