My Philosophy of Care

The weight inclusive, trauma-informed care you will receive while working with me is grounded in the belief that it is our birthright to eat intuitively and move in a way that honors our body’s unique needs and limitations. I believe that all individuals deserve a peaceful connection with their body, a natural, enjoyable relationship with food, and to move joyfully in whatever way they can or want. If you are interested in nutrition support, you can expect to be listened to and upheld as the authority of your experience. I will not pretend to be the 'expert' of your body, so we will go beyond baseline meal planning and nutrition education to honor your agency and lived experience. Together, we will recover the flexibility with food and the embodied connection you deserve by unpacking the stories retained about our bodies, food, and exercise from our society, family, friends, coaches, educators, medical professionals, etc. We will shed the damaging diet mentality and learn how your well-being does not have to come by manipulating your body size and at the expense of your mental health. As a yoga instructor, I embody these values by providing weight-inclusive, trauma-informed classes that are designed to support a diverse range of body sizes and abilities. Within every class, individuals are guided to recognize and respond to the messages from their body above all else.

About Me & My Practice

As a ‘non-diet’ dietitian and SmartFLOW certified yoga teacher, I have spent my career guiding individuals to heal their relationship with food and movement by providing an alternative to the pervasive messages of diet and fitness culture. I have advanced training in eating disorder nutrition therapy for adult and adolescent populations as well as experience guiding trauma-sensitive meditation, mindfulness, and yoga classes for those in the midst of recovery. I became a Health at Every Size aligned provider at the start of my career when I worked in a residential treatment facility for adolescent girls with eating disorders. Even at such a young age, many of these girls had already internalized the message that weight = health, and it was often one of the platforms their ED would use to hold them captive. I was able to witness how the weight centric approach to health (and the sidekick, diet culture) did not create a safe environment for these girls to recover into. You cannot unsee this impact, so I immersed myself in HAES(R) education and carried this core value into my personal and professional life. As the owner and founder of Rooted Recovery, I continue to hold HAES aligned, compassionate care as the cornerstone for the work I do both in client sessions and in the community through providing classes/workshops on eating disorder prevention, diet culture, and HAES at colleges, doctor's offices, and yoga studios.

Accessibility Considerations

A stable wifi connection and access to a computer or cell phone is required for virtual sessions. If medical monitoring is necessary to ensure the client's physical safety, I will collaborate with the client's primary care physician or pediatrician. I will provide education on HAES aligned medical practices to the other members of the treatment team if necessary and/or referrals to HAES aligned practitioners will be given.
