My Philosophy of Care

I approach my work with from a patient-centered lens where compassion and respect are held in highest regard. In my consultation call, I discuss the fact that weight is not a reliable indicator of health and ask that it takes the backseat while we work together. I focus on the more reliable markers such as stress resilience, sleep, bowel movements, energy levels, and lab levels. I firmly believe health can be achieved in every body at every size. I acknowledge that healthcare has many shortcomings, especially in the white-washed and thin-washed view of what health looks like. Time and time again, clients in larger bodies have reported harmful comments from medical providers and it is infuriating. My primary focus is to be a voice of compassion, empathy, and knowledge for folks who have been harmed by the existing system. Everyone is deserving of equitable care where shame and guilt are used against stigmatized and marginalized populations. Being a Health at Every Size® Provider means being an ally and a place of safety in the medical world. I practice from this perspective because once I learned about it, I couldn’t unsee it or practice from any other perspective. It just makes sense. And I am committed to using my able-bodied, white privilege to be an advocate in this field.

About Me & My Practice

I am a Licensed Dietitian and Certified Nutrition Specialist, specializing in disordered eating, gastrointestinal issues, and mental health conditions. I received clinical supervision from HAES providers in my initial 1000-hour internship in 2021 and it has been the framework I practice from ever since. I initially came to nutrition because I wanted to learn about how to “be healthy” and help others “be healthy”. This quickly turned in to unlearning so many ideas and frameworks that I have been taught to be true throughout my whole life growing up as a thin, white, able-bodied female. I had to look at my internal biases and do deep work to understand why they were there and how to see past them. When I am not working, I love being outside - swimming, rock climbing, hiking, paddling, anything really! I live with my wonderful husband and our sweet Siamese cat named Sally.

Accessibility Considerations

My practice is virtual only and offers closed-captioning for all of our sessions. I can refer to local clinics that take accessibility into consideration for all of my patients.
