My Philosophy of Care

My practice is deeply rooted in anti-racist, trauma-informed, body liberation, and systems-oriented care, and will continue to do that necessary and ongoing work. I utilize an inclusive, client-centered approach that doesn't approach care in a color-blind, neutral, "one-size-fits-all" method. Rather than using one treatment methodology, we use a blend of modalities and therapeutic methods to work with the individual needs of each client based on their goals, experiences, comforts, and limits. I am body, sex, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and neurodivergence affirming, and center identity in my work.

I believe that health and weight are not mutually exclusive, and that all bodies are deserving of safety and respect — a basic right that is often oppressed in society. I aim to empower my clients to externalize their shame to hold oppressive systems accountable rather than their bodies. Everything is in flux, including bodies and health, and that fact should not be vilified. I support clients in re-discovering (or for some, discovering for the first time) their authentic relationship with their bodies, free of systemic influence and full of liberation.

About Me & My Practice

Hi! I’m Lauren, a Holistic and solution-oriented psychotherapist licensed in the state of New York. I practice through a social justice, trauma-informed, fat liberationist, and Health at Every Size® (HAES®) lens. Along with my clients, I aim to co-create a therapeutic space that is grounded in empathy, collaboration, healing, and insight. A session with me will feel both supportive and challenging. I aim to encourage you to embrace discomfort in order to get to the root of the issue. From there, we will work as a team to process, honor, and heal whatever lies beneath. I contribute the clinical expertise, and you contribute your own insight and experience. You are the expert of you, always.

I hold two B.A.s from Boston University in Psychology & Philosophy and Forensic Developmental Psychology. I also received my Masters in Clinical Social Work from The Columbia University School of Social Work. I am ASDAH, NASW, and EMDRIA affiliated.

I am IFS and EMDR trained and have post-graduate training in Substance Use/Chemical Dependency from the Yale School of Medicine as well as in CBT-E, an empirically proven treatment modality for Eating Disorders.

In addition to my private practice work, I also act as a guest facilitator for Global Girls Prep's Women-In-Action program, connecting with students who are interested in deepening their learning of body politics and the relevant systemic and societal harm in hopes of enacting generational change.

Accessibility Considerations

The majority of sessions are held virtually utilizing a version of Telehealth that allows for closed captions and auditory support.

In person sessions are optional and take place in a building with 2 elevators. The office has multiple seating options to support access for all bodies. Folks will never be subjected to body shaming or the use of numbers as metrics (weight, BMI, etc.). All staff is trained, knowledgeable, and affirming of anti-oppressive language and body liberation practices.
