My Philosophy of Care

My approach to care respects the self-determination of each person I work with. I may be a provider who has had the privilege of receiving training and experience in providing treatment, but you are the one living your own life and I honor your ability to choose what is right for you. Choice and informed consent are things I offer every step of the way. I choose to operate from a Health at Every Size® framework because it is a model that both respects the humanity and dignity of every person and is backed by good science. Respectful healthcare should not be the exception, it should be the rule.

About Me & My Practice

I became a therapist because I had my own transformative experience with a kind and skilled therapist that helped change my life for the better. I am certified in EMDR (which requires a minimum of 2 years of supervised experience) through EMDRIA, and certified as a certified eating disorder specialist (CEDS), although I do not agree with all of the ways iaedp chooses to handle things. I have been practicing from a Health at Every Size lens for several years now and have read numerous books and watched several webinars about fat liberation, weight stigma, and respectful and competent care for larger-bodied folks from ASDAH and other organizations. I advocate for my clients who are affected by medical fatphobia frequently and will contact doctors directly and make specific requests of them for appropriate care and treatment.

Accessibility Considerations

My furniture is rated to 500lbs and I hope to provide furniture accessible to higher weights in the future. The waiting room has chairs both with and without arms. The bathroom is an ADA accessible, large single-stall room with handrails. I work in a shared office where each practitioner is independent. I do control my own paperwork and there are no questions about weight, BMI, etc.
