My Philosophy of Care

One of the bravest things a person can do is share their story and ask for support. Together we can develop ways to help you navigate your journey with more ease and happiness. I believe the power of expressing our emotions, being aware of our beliefs, and investigating our assumptions can unlock paths we previously only dreamed of. As a fat therapist I show up unapologetically in sessions with clients of all sizes and own my fat identity early to encourage authentic discussions about intersectionality, privilege, and oppression. I utilize body neutral and non-stigmatizing language throughout my work and personal life. Additionally, I support my clients/community with confronting their own fatphobic language and indoctrination in diet culture.

A cornerstone of my therapeutic work is having a trauma informed/harm reduction approach which supports establishing the client as the expert of their experience, a much more respectful power dynamic than the traditional hierarchy of therapy.

About Me & My Practice

Alchemy Art Therapy supports adults and teens struggling with anxiety, depression, body image, relationships, life transitions, or identity issues, build insight and empowerment, develop acceptance/motivation for change, and establish practical ways to cope with stress. My clients often to come from a variety of marginalized communities: LGBTQIIA+, Latinx/Latine/Latino, BIPOC, bi/multi-racial, Fat, (diagnosed/suspected) neuroatypical or neurodivergent, kink/alt relationship styles/ENM/polyam, SWers, people who use alcohol/drugs, & creatives.

My warmth, understanding, and openness help clients feel safe exploring difficult topics. My alchemy blends the creative arts, mindfulness, embodied techniques, lived experience, radical liberation mindset, and traditional talk therapy to help clients transform their struggle into success and hurt into healing. I have specialized training in Drama Therapy, Trauma Informed Systems, and Harm Reduction, elements of which are woven through my work.

By combining practical approaches, empirical research, and logic with the magic of the arts, integration of play, and accessing the mind/body connection we can explore practices and mindsets to help you reach your goals. As someone who's been fat their whole life (ranging from small fat-superfat) I know first hand the impact of fatphobic providers can have on accessing care, much less quality care.

Accessibility Considerations

My practice is virtual which requires clients have access to a phone/web connection for either voice or video communication and a private setting for confidential sessions.
